Contemporary Nigerian artistes have always shook clubs and parties with charging and monstrous hits, but in 2014, they took it up another notch, releasing songs that had their fans bopping and swaying from dance tracks propagating new dance moves such as Sekem and Shoki to songs celebrating love. WeWeekly takes a look at the songs that rocked the year… MAVIN, Dorobucci The video of the hit song, Dorobucci featured Mavin’s boss, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Dr. Sid, D’Prince, Korede Bello, Di’ja and Reekado Banks. Dorobucci, which shook the music landscape, premiered some months ago and in less than 24 hours, the video had over 10,000 views on YouTube. DAVIDO, Aye The 22 year old pop star, David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, released his hit song, Aye produced by T-Sprize early 2014. The video, directed by the virtuoso, Clarence Peters, features heavy use of traditional costumes. With this song, Davido really made waves in the entertainment industry. OREZI, Shoki Afro hip hop singer, Esegine Allen, famously known as Orezi cashed in on the popularity of the Shoki dance step by creating a song of the same name. The song, Shoki produced by Popito was widely accepted by Nigerians and till now has not left the lips of his fans. SKALES, Shake Body Rapper, singer and songwriter, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales kicked off his new phase with a single, Shake Body produced by Jay Pizzle. Shake Body is a beautiful dance track which ruled dance floors at clubs and parties throughout the year. ORITSEFEMI, Double Wahala Self-professed musical Taliban, Oristsefemi Majemito Ekele, famously known as Oritsefemi, had an unforgettable 2014. His remake of Abami Eda, Fela Kuti’s Double Wahala shot him to the top of the charts and made him grin from ear as he walked to the bank. SID, Surulere Surulere, suru laye yi o…Nigerian music lovers, both young and old sang along with Dr. Sid and Mavin Records boss and beat making guru, Don Jazzy on this track. It’s a song that preaches patience and its rewards as portrayed in the Daniel Ugo shot visuals. SEYI SHEY, Murda Sultry singer, Seyi Shey ruled the air waves with Murda featuring singers Patoranking and Shaydee. The hit, produced by the veteran Dokta Frabz, has a catchy beat and rhythmic chorus which made it a deejay’s favourite. YEMI ALADE, Johnny Delectable singer, Yemi Eberechi Alade, popularly known as Yemi Alade ruled the airwaves with Johnny produced by Selebobo. The visuals for the hit, shot by the prolific Clarence Peters, featured Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo, singer Saeon and comedian Bovi. MC GALAXY, Sekem Popular artiste, Innocent Udeme Udofot, known as Mc Galaxy dropped beautiful tune plus viral dance video, Sekem produced by T-Spize. The video featured comedian Basketmouth and 2Face doing their Sekem dance will make you start dancing unconsciously. PATORANKING, Girlie O Dancehall artiste, Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, popularly known as Patoranking released a song called Girle O featuring Tiwa Savage. The video was directed by Moe Musa. The song, Girile O widely accepted by Nigerians especially ladies, has been played in different ceremonies on different occasions. The year 2014 is about to end. Let's take a look at the major happenings in the Nigerian entertainment in 2014. Here are the major highlights of the good, the bad and the ugly of Nigerian entertainment in 2014. THE GOOD We heard news about so many good things that happened to a lot of our entertainers such as: *Weddings -Tiwa Savage and Tee Bliz wedded in Dubai -Paul Okoye and Anita Isama's traditional marriage -Jude Okoye's wedding -Jnr Pope wedded O.C Ukeje wedded -Ibinabo Fiberesima found love again and did both her traditional and white wedding PREGNANCIES & DELIVERIES -Mercy Johnson was pregnant & also gave birth to a baby boy. -Uche Ogbodo was pregnant and also gave birth to a baby girl. -Damilola Adegbite was pregnant and also gave birth. Uche Jombo was pregnant, lost it, and got pregnant again. -Ty Bello gave birth to twins after many years of marriage. Scholarships The following Nollywood stars were given scholarships by NOU: Ini Edo, Kenneth Okonkwo, Chioma Akpota, Francis Duru, and few others. Endorsements Omotola and Dakore Akande became ambassadors for pampers; others that got endorsement deals were, Funke Akindele, Ali Nuhu-(Omo), Dbanj, Tiwa Savage, amongst others. Pageant-Mr World Mr Nigeria, Emmanuel Ikubese, emerged First Runner Up at the Mr World Competition held in the Uk. Music Many of our musicians released lots of singles and albums that made waves, and many of them also won awards. -Tonto Dikeh was signed by Dbanj. Awards: -Omotola and Joke Silver bagged MFR Awards from president Jonathan. -Patience Ozokwor and Olu Jacobs bagged centenary awards. Politics: Desmond Elliot & Funke Adesinya secured tickets to represent their parties in the forthcoming general elections; they would be contesting for their state's house of Assembly. THE BAD -Ini Edo's divorce scandal -Uche Ogbodo's divorce -Psquare break up rumours -Tiwa Salvage and Tee Bliz' divorce rumours -Uche Jombo's miscarriage. -Many entertainers like 9ice, Kate Henshaw, Kenneth Okonkwo, etc, lost out in their bid to secure tickets to contest in various positions in the forthcoming general elections. THE UGLY Sex Scandal Actress Angela Okorie was involved in a serious adultery and theft mess in South Africa. In an article titled 'Of Flavour's flaunt, Yachting holidays and Range Rovers", which he posted on his blog yesterday, Nollywood producer and director called Chika's Ike manager, Serah Donald, obtuse, meaning dull, not sharp!. Below is what Charles wrote about Chika Ike's recent yacht trip and Serah... "It all boils down to my point. And by the way, that picture I saw of the yacht is suspect. The damned thing looked like a cruise boat which the obtuse PA might have mistaken for a yacht though. An extremely hardworking one as such and very charitable ,i am sure you are aware of how many lives she has changed with her Chika Ike foundation. Chika Ike is  blessed and no man can take that away. She is 28 and successful and she's sure going to live her life to the fullest so feel free to feed your eyes with more instagram pictures if it pains you then go work harder and be celebrated. Many were killed today November 3rd after a suicide bomber detonated a bomb targeted at members of the Shiite group, the Islamic Brotherhood of Nigeria, who were on procession at Faydia Islamic School located near the old market in Pokiskum, Yobe state. Reports say the Muslim faithfuls were celebrating Ashura day, which is the new month of the Islamic Calendar, when the bomb went off. The bomber was among the worshipers when the bomb went off. Security operatives have since condoned off the scene of the incident. Details later...
