About 200 students may have been expelled by the authorities of Covenant University, Cannanland, Ota, Ogun State, recently for what was described as “disregard of paramount core values.” Frustrated and angered by the development, some of the affected students who gave account of what happened battled emotions while narrating their situations to Saturday Vanguard recently. They however pleaded with the school authorities to tamper justice with mercy in order to save their future. A letter of expulsion signed by the Registrar, Ntia Ubong, a copy which was made available to Saturday Vanguard stated that the affected students contravened Chapter 1, section 30, page 40 of the 2010-2014 Student Handbook.

Word is reaching us that fire has broken out at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos. All workers and passengers have been evacuated and fire fighters are on the scene. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed though some reports have it as electrical and it’s unclear if anyone is seriously injured. We’re sure more details will emerge soon.

What could have prompted a secondary school principal to conduct virginity tests on her female students with her bare hands remains a mystery to parents of the students of Ajuwon High School, near Akuta in Ogun state. The principal was dragged to Ajuwon police station by parents of the students for carrying out virginity tests on their wards without their permission. DailyPost gathered that the students took to the streets last week in protest of the principal’s action which took place in her office. It was learnt that the principal, Mrs Aladeojebi accused most of them of promiscuity and later forced them to her office to carry out a virginity test on them with her bare hands. An SS1 student who was in tears while narrating her ordeal to her parents accused the principal of using her hands to puncture her ‘honey pot’. Subsequently, other parents were informed and the matter was reported to Ajuwon police station. DailyPost gathered that Mrs Aladeojebi reportedly confessed of inviting a trained nurse to conduct the test, emphasizing that an egg was used and not her hands. “It is totally unacceptable for a school principal to conduct virgin test. Is that part of the school syllabus or was it ratified by the Ogun state government?” one of the witnesses asked in a rhetoric mood. Furthermore, a parent stressed that the action was tantamount to sexual abuse, adding that most parents feared the case might be swept under the carpet. However, all efforts to get an official statement from the police proved abortive as at press time.

According to the Examiner, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, has reportedly returned a free load of clothing from Kim Kardashian who recently launched a clothing line ‘The Kollection’, with her sister, Kourtney. Chelsea have not won a league game since their controversial 3-2 home loss to Manchester United last month. Mikel admitted to MTNFootball.com that Chelsea were not good enough against West Brom, but they would not dwell in the past as they hope to get back on track. “It was painful we lost to West Brom. So go out and have a fun time especially with your male friends in a strictly platonic manner. Your man will get the picture of what you want loud and clear 5. Begin making independent financial decisions Start taking major financial decisions independently. Make him see that you are doing all the things that he would normally do. When he questions you, throw the “we are not married” line at him. It’s hitting below the belt but it works! 6. Talk to him about moving Casually speak about moving cities to look for better career options. This should make him feel insecure and should prompt him to have “The Talk” with you. If he doesn’t still wake up you really have to take a look at your relationship and figure out if it has matured or not or if you need to give it a little more time. 7. Hand him an ultimatum If you feel that you don’t want to wait around forever and that your man is refusing to wake up to the reality of eventually getting married, then hand him an ultimatum and let him know that despite loving him immensely you are not going to wait around forever. He will jump into action from there on!

BlackBerry Messenger gets free voice calls over Wi-Fi, available now Research In Motion is not expected to release its next generation BlackBerry 10 handsets until the first quarter of 2013, but the company has something for its loyal users in the meantime: free Wi-Fi calling over BlackBerry Messenger. Version 7.0 of the popular messaging platform has just entered beta with a new feature called BBM Voice that will could provide a simple way for users to save on voice minutes. The new feature is tightly integrated into the platform. BlackBerry Messenger will show who in your contact list is available to call using BBM Voice, and a simple press of the dial key will send a request to start a voice call. During calls users can jump into a split screen mode allowing them to talk, text and send images or other content at the same time with any BBM contact, or even switch to other applications. BBM has long been touted as a key advantage of BlackBerry devices over the competition. And though it was quite disruptive at the time, similar cross-platform options like WhatsApp have since cropped up to lessen its appeal. The ability to make free calls over Wi-Fi is not new either, as applications like Viber have been doing that for a while and even support cellular data connections. Nevertheless, having the option baked into the OS presents some advantages, and might be a big deal in emerging markets where BlackBerry is still strong. Although the ability to make free voice calls may sound as something that carriers would frown upon, it appears that they’re willing to play ball as long 3G/4G support remains out of the picture. James Tantram, senior product manager at RIM, tells The Verge that carriers believe BBM drives a lot of purchase decisions and making it more compelling means more people will want to sign up for the BBM plan or data plan. BBM 7 with the new BBM Voice feature is currently available in beta form for BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry 6 OS or higher, with support planned for smartphones running BlackBerry 5 OS at a future date. The beta can be downloaded for free from BlackBerry Beta Zone.
